The ninth round (Sunday, 1:45 p.m. CEST live on ARD) now puts the DTM on the finish straight of the season. With leader of the standings Timo Scheider and champion Mattias Ekström Audi has two hot irons in the fire – and prominent support to boot: Sisters Anja and Gerit Kling as well as Simon Licht will keep their fingers crossed for the drivers at Barcelona.

Internationally operating service provider DEKRA remains DTM partner for another two years. Clemens Klinke, Chairman of the executive Board of DEKRA Automobil GmbH, and Walter Mertes, Board Member Marketing and Sponsoring of DTM rights holder and promoter ITR e.V., signed the deal running up to the end of 2009.

The EuroSpeedway Lausitz is a facility that is second to none. The ultra-modern complex, which was only opened in 2000 and is thus the "youngest" race track on the DTM schedule, stands for state-of-the-art safety technology, comfort galore and ample space conditions. Audi driver Timo Scheider finds the various combinations of corners on the 3.478-kilometre circuit version highly attractive. The title defence has started. At the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, Swedish Audi driver, Mattias Ekström, won the first DTM race of the year. After 169.238 kilometres, the 29-year old was the first to cross the finish line. “My new A4 goes like a rocket”, said the overjoyed winner of the season opener about his car. For Ekström, it is the eleventh DTM victory of his career. For Audi, it was the 43rd DTM race win. Pole-sitter Timo Scheider came home second, 0.824 seconds down on the winner. Danish driver, Tom Kristensen completed Audi’s clean sweep of the podium by finishing third. Best-placed Mercedes-Benz driver was last year’s runner-up, Bruno Spengler (CDN), in fourth place. Ralf Schumacher showed a respectable performance by finishing 14th in his maiden DTM-race. Over the weekend, a total of 93,000 spectators came to witness the first of this year’s eleven DTM events.

Audi Sport Team Joest enters two of the latest generation Audi R10 TDI for Dindo Capello (Italy) and Allan McNish (Scotland) and Alexandre Prémat (France) and Mike Rockenfeller (Germany) in every race of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) organised endurance championship.

Audi thanked the Audi Sport team, the race teams, the partners and the drivers for the successful 2007 DTM season at an end-of-season party in the Audi Forum Neckarsulm. At the same time, Christian Abt and Vanina Ickx, who both finish their DTM careers, received an official send-off. The complete Executive Board of the DTM organising body ITR e.V. were among the guests.
