The World Series by Renault organizing committee has presented to the teams the changes to be introduced in the three international WSR championships – Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Eurocup Mégane Trophy – for the 2009 season.

Everything is in place for Giedo Van der Garde (P1 Motorsport) to take his first motorsport title. The penultimate meeting could see the Dutchman, who leads Fabio Carbone (Ultimate-Signature) by 53 points, crowned champion. With just 62 points still to play for, Giedo has plenty of room to maneuver!

Drivers from competitions set up by Renault Sport Technologies and RPM Racing shone at an exciting Italian Grand Prix. Having graduated to Formula 1 from Formula Renault 3.5 just over a year ago, Sebastian Vettel stepped into the limelight when he claimed his first Grand Prix victory in only his twenty-second F1 race.

Day two of collective testing got off to a gentle start on a wet track. Everyone waited until the afternoon session to put on new tyres and go after good lap times. Brazilian Fabio Carbone (Ultimate Signature) ended the day ahead of Giedo Van der Garde (P1 Motorsport), who has been among the pacesetters since the start of these test sessions. Tomorrow is the last day before everyone meets up again in Monza at the end of the month.

After a month-long mid-season break, the Formula Renault 3.5 cars returned to action at Spa-Francorchamps. Fairuz Fauzy (Cram Compétition) recorded the best time in the half-day of collective testing, to finish ahead of Clivio Piccione (RC Motorsport). Championship rivals Filipe Albuquerque (Epsilon Euskadi) and Alvaro Parente (Tech 1 Racing) were not far behind the top two.

Just seven points separate the German and Portuguese drivers, who have already opened up a sizeable gap on the rest of the field, leaving a dozen or so drivers to fight for third place in the overall standings

Whether it be Sebastian Vettel’s impressive F1 debut at Indianapolis, Guillaume Moreau taking part in the Le Mans 24-hour race or Giedo van der Garde testing with the Spyker F1 team, some World Series Formula Renault 3.5 drivers have found plenty to keep themselves busy during the long mid-season break, which will come to end in mid-July with the Hungaroring meeting! The Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0’s talented young drivers have also been in action with the rounds of their respective national championships…
